Active luxury tour Crocodiles, Monkeys and Skulls

We leave for this very active private tour in the afternoon and we go to Punta Laguna. Punta Laguna is a small Mayan-community at the shores of a lagoon. Around the lagoon is a national reserve where spider monkeys and howler monkeys can be found. The Mayan population of Punta Laguna, who manage the reserve by themselves, lives mainly from eco-tourism.

We will start the visit with a hike, with local guides, through the untouched jungle along the Lagoon. Here we will see remains from Mayan ruins, cenotes and an incredible vegetation. However main reason for our hike is to find the groups of spider monkeys who live in the jungle. If we are lucky we find as well small numbers of howler monkeys.

After the jungle hike we pay start the second activity of the tour. We descend into a cenote. This cenote is huge cave with water. On the bottom of the cenote archeologist discovered a number of skulls. The old Mayan used caves and cenote, which were seen as the doorway to Xibalba; the underworld, as religious places where the brought offers to their Gods. The skulls are part of these offerings. When we return to the present world we can visit a Maya family in the village. The last part of this excursion is a zip line over the lagoon followed by a tour with canoes, where we will try to find the crocodiles which still live in the lagoon.

After these activities in Punta Laguna we drive back to Playa del Carmen and Cancun.
